Cacique Cacique off the Great Barrier Reef

In 1993 Cacique (pronounced Ka Seek) completed a circumnavigation. In 2007 her major refit was completed.

She was circumnavigated singlehanded by Rona House 1990 to 1993.

Cacique was built in 1976, the hull was moulded by Stuart Yacht Building Ltd and the fit out was done by Pheon Yachts; this was before Pheon had any involvement with Nothshore.

On completion of her build she was sailed to South America by her initial owner (Mr. Tanis). In April 83 she was sailed back across the Atlantic and imported into the UK and VAT Paid. Cacique was sold in 1984, 1987 and again in 1990 when Rona House bought her. Shortly after buying Cacique, Rona departed on an Atlantic crossing that developed into a three year circumnavigation. Rona was awarded the Ocean Cruising Club’s Rose Medal (named after Sir Alec Rose) for a meritorious singlehanded circumnavigation.

Cacique has the very open keyhole shaped main bulkhead in the saloon this was the first one built like this by Pheon and was ordered specifically by Mr. Tanis, after this it became the standard design for the three berth version as it makes the saloon look much bigger.

There are many photographs of the circumnavigation, which are available on the gallery page.

After her circumnavigation Cacique was laid up in Chris Humphries boatyard in Teignmouth for 10 years, and unfortunately had deteriorated.
